Getting here
Kasa d’Vizin sits in Eito, a village in Paul Valley on Santo Antão. There is no airport on Santo Antão, so you come by sea from São Vicente. Below is the simplest route.
Step 1
Europe → Cesária Évora Airport (VXE)
Santo Antão has no airport, so you fly to São Vicente first. From the airport a taxi brings you to the ferry terminal in Mindelo.
From most European cities with a stop in Lisbon
Airport taxi in São Vicente: approx. 1,200 CVE (~€11)
Step 2
Mindelo → Porto Novo
The ferry crosses several times a day. Schedules change with wind and season, so check locally or ask us.
About 45-60 min
Approx. 1,500 CVE (~€14) per person
Step 3
Porto Novo → Eito, Paul Valley
The coastal road is the quickest. The old mountain road is the scenic option (6,000 CVE (~€55) per car). You can also be dropped at the Cova crater and walk down into Paul Valley in about 2.5 to 3.5 hours while your luggage goes ahead to the house.
About 45-60 min
Coletivo 400 CVE (~€4) per person · private transfer 4,000 CVE (~€36) per car
Plan roughly 2.5 to 4 hours from Cesária Évora Airport to Eito, depending on ferry schedules and whether you take a taxi or coletivo. Prices and timetables change with the season, so ask us if you want the latest tips.
We're happy to help with the practical side of your stay. Arranging transfers is always free: we charge no commission. You pay the actual cost of the driver, guide or other provider directly.

Santo Antão is safe to explore independently, and many hikes are easy to follow with a navigation app such as Komoot. Have a look at the available routes there for inspiration. A guide is therefore not essential, but can add much more to your hike: local stories, traditions, agriculture, history and everyday island life - while you simply enjoy the scenery without worrying about navigation.
A guide costs from 7,000 CVE (~€64) per day. For several days together a discount is often possible.

A rental car gives you the freedom to explore Santo Antão at your own pace and is especially useful for scenic drives and circular hikes. However, it is not essential. Taxis and shared minibuses are widely available, and some of the island's best-known hikes, such as the descent from Cova crater into Paul Valley and the coastal trail from Ponta do Sol to Cruzinha, start and finish in different places. For these hikes, local transport is more practical than returning to a parked car.
Car rental companies include Pegaso, Vale & Montanha and Dongo in Porto Novo, and Levamar and Olicorr in Paul.
